Here I quote from Reuters: "Chief Executive Reed Hastings told analysts at a meeting in San Jose, California ... "... Netflix expects to reach 20 million subscribers by 2010 to 2012, and another executive said Netflix believed up to 30 percent of people with Internet connections and DVD players could subscribe to its service. Its goal is 4 million at the end of this year and 5 million by the end of 2006, ahead of its previously set target. "Hastings told Reuters the company felt comfortable forecasting dramatic profit increases because of changes in the competitive marketplace, including the shuttering of a growing number of Blockbuster Inc. video rental stores for the first time in 20 years." Of course, Blockbuster isn't strictly bricks-and-mortar; they have their own 'deliver to your door' service. Here's an unrelated TiVo/Netflix fusion rumor from Newsweek: "Subscribers who belong to both services will be able to download their Netflix DVDs over the Internet directly into the TiVo boxes in their homes, instead of receiving them in the mail. Spokespeople at the companies refused to comment on what they called rumor. But an insider who was close to the negotiations says the straightforward partnership is all but a done deal, pending only the approval of the TiVo board this week." Disclaimer? Um, I don't own Netflix or Blockbuster stock, am not an employee, etc. I don't even watch many movies. I do dig the 'deliver to your door' service model.
